Amazing service and flawless work! Veena at Veena’s Alterations in Whitby is truly the best! She’s altered a few bridesmaid dresses for me now and every time, the fit has been absolutely perfect. She’s quick, reliable, and always goes above and beyond to make sure everything looks just right. On top of that, she’s incredibly friendly and welcoming, it’s clear she really cares about her customers. I’m so glad I found her and wouldn’t go anywhere else for alterations!
I asked Veena to make a new pocket for my jacket and help with a few other repairs-she not only did a great job, but also went above and beyond by fixing a few extra things I didn't even ask for. Super friendly and professional. I'd definitely recommend her to others and will be going back in the future!
Spent a lot of money to have her reline a jacket, but she assured me it would be "just like new". After her first attempt it was terrible. Complained, and she redid it, but still looks bad. Lines are uneven, lining is baggy and hanging below the jacket. Use her for simple things, but nothing extensive.
I am highly recommending this business. Veena is so professional in what she does. She has given me great advice on my alterations, and I am continuing to rely on her. Such satisfaction!
Your hours say you’re open, and that you’re walk in. I go to your store and find a note on your door saying closed till August 19th. I tried calling and no call back. It would have been nice to see on your website that you’re closed after driving 30 minutes out of my way. Thanks
TLDR: Very Rude owner. Go here if enjoy being berated. I just came from this establishment in the last hour and it's unfortunate to see how true the negative reviews from 6 years ago are still relevant today. I came 3 months ago to get some pants altered, the person who was working in the store seemed a bit blunt (which echoes earlier reviews in the past) but not outwardly rude at the time, just seemed like someone who wanted to get their work done. I wanted the pants tapered and hemmed, however when I tried it on in front of her, based on her recommendation, I just hemmed them based on the length she suggested, paid and picked up a few days later, didn't really look at the work/try out the pants, but had no issues overall. Fast forward to today as I had not tried them on until last week , I realized now they were still a bit too long (my fault completely). Figured I'd finish a work meeting early and head over, with the intent to pay for new alterations as, again, it was my fault that I did not hem it shorter, in no way was I going to ask for this to be done for free. I marked the area I wanted hemmed with a pant fold and I walked in, shortly after 4PM. Walked in, tried to exchange pleasantries, again, no response other than "yes?". After explaining I wanted it hemmed, she said the changing rooms are behind me. I casually mentioning I had come here before with these pants, and I had folded them where I felt it was a good length, and maybe 1/4 to 1/2 inch longer based on what she recommended. I'm not sure if her annoyance stemmed from her assuming that because I mentioned I had come here before with the pants I was expecting it to be free (Which, if true, is not correct as I wanted to pay for the alteration service as it was my fault I didn't get it higher) or if she was annoyed I had folded them rather than try them on (I was happy to try them on if she felt if she preferred that so she could gage what would work better). Her reaction was to mark the fold with a safety pin and say "I don't like what you said...about the 1/4 inch of 1/2 inch" pretty ominously, as if I had said something to offend her. I was a bit puzzled and taken aback as I wasn't sure what to say in return as I assumed she was joking but her face was in a scowl as if I did/said something offensive. I reiterated just looking to hem based on the fold I made it but was okay with either 1/4 or 1/2 inch lower from the fold, as I was open to suggestions. Figuring she wasn't happy with the suggestion of where I wanted them folded, I asked if it was better if I try them on to get a better idea, with her gruffly responding "Change rooms are behind you" and motioned me with her hand as if to dismiss me. While these small slights may not seem like much based on above, but all together, her openly being rude for our very brief interaction was enough for me to "Actually I will take this elsewhere" very quietly and started walking out the door, when I heard her mutter something behind me. I turned around and quietly asked "is there any reason you are acting so rude? What did I do" to which she aggressively responded "Get lost, door is behind you, I don't need this." I just spend 30 minutes writing this out because it is appalling someone who is running a business, especially a small business, would speak to other people like this, let alone new/existing customers, when there is a competing business in the same plaza that offers similar services in addition to running a dry cleaners. Owning a business is hard, especially a small one and customers are never easy in the service industry but to treat them with disrespect for no reason is uncalled for. Maybe she felt she could speak to me like this because as I am a younger person but the reviews seem to indicate this is consistent behaviour. The owners responses to negative reviews seem to be very accusatory rather than resolving issues. so I hope they read this as constructive criticism rather than looking at this review as someone complaining for the sake of complaining.
My wife came to get a quote on alterations she needed for a dress for a wedding. Not only was the owner blunt and unprofessional, she told her she could not loosen the sides of the dress and could only do the hemming. She made comments such as "You can take the dress back and not go to the wedding" as an alternative solution just because she wouldn't have been to finish the piece on time. My wife was able to get this done in a timely manner at another seamstress without the uncomfortable experience. Would not recommend if you are looking for a pleasant seamstress.
